Through song, drumming, puppetry, and dance, Krystal Puppeteers share the story of a brave monkey named Libendi who leaves his famine-struck land in search of water.

Krystal Puppeteers share a story from the African oral tradition featuring a brave monkey named Libendi who leaves his famine-struck land in search of water.

Their vibrant performance tells the story of Libendi’s journey and its aftermath through song, drumming, puppetry, and dance.

The performance features a range of traditional puppet styles including marionettes, hand puppets, masks, and silhouettes.

Tears By The River has been performed in over 25 festivals in four continents. Puppets in Portland is the first time Krystal Puppeteers will perform in Maine.

This production is presented in partnership with the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine.

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is committed to following CDC guidance as it pertains to their decisions around the spread of COVID 19. Cumberland County, Maine is currently identified as an area with LOW COMMUNITY LEVEL for COVID-19. As of Saturday, June 4th, masking at CMTM is optional indoors for staff, as well as visitors aged 2 & up attending their play sessions and theatre shows. Masking policies will continue to adjust to respond to the designated “community level.”
