Maisie Goodnight is a Philadelphia-based puppeteer making new folk tales for metamorphosis and the in-between, with their shadow play simmering together hand-cut paper, overhead projector, crankie theater, song, and cello.
They are also an art teacher and puppetry gathering organizer working to make puppetry more connected and accessible in Philadelphia. Their educational work and event co-coordination has been supported by their peers and mentors as well as the Bartol Foundation, the Puppet Slam Network, and the Center for Cultural Vibrancy.
In their running-around-and-performing-shoes, Maisie has recently had the joy of casting their shadows with slam communities including Nasty Brutish and Short, A Rafter of Crankies, the Philly Puppet Slam!, and Blood from a Turnip. They often teach puppetry, parade, and toy-making in partnership with Spiral Q, Asian Arts Initiative, Temple University, and Haverford College, with a focus on disrupting our day to day with play and self expression, and calling us in to our intersections for feeding our collective liberation.
